What about the original Monrovia Library?

Located in Library Park, the original library was funded through Andrew Carnegie and the Carnegie Corporation who provided funding for 1,681 public library buildings in 1,412 U.S. communities between 1889 and 1923. This philanthropy had a great impact on the growth of public library development in the United States. The majority of the library grants in California were to small cities; in the larger cities, branch libraries were emphasized, a reflection of Carnegie's philosophy to "place within its reach the ladders upon which the aspiring can rise."
